1-800-GOOG411 – (example of Google taking over)

goog411, googel | No Comments »

Have you ever called 411? WHAT CITY & STATE PLEASE? Then you get an operator who tells you the number in a nice polite voice. Well, GOOG411 is entirely automated. Voice recognition. I tried it for a bit, it’s not bad for a beta product. I think it needs a little work. I’d like to know what they are using for a reference. I tried to look for Apple Support in Arlington. It gave me the Apple Stores in the area and 4 other support places including the company I work for. I tried a more obscure search. The system got a bit confused and it ended up making me start over a few times. So the final word, not bad and Google, keep up the good work!

Oh no not Jaiku! (Twitter like)

jaiku, twitter | No Comments »

Twitter me this…After using Twitter and then jaiku, I actually like Twitter more. It has a nice Macintosh client, works with instant message and you can even take RSS feed from twitter and have Jaiku view them. Both are nice but for my use, since I don’t have a Nokia phone that can take advantage of Jaiku, I will stick to Twitter…Sorry Leo, I will check on you from time to time.

Community websites, finding old friends, some new … Part 2

AppleMacGeniusVille | No Comments »

So this is a continuation of my previous blog about community websites. Everyone is trying to figure out which website to join, should I join MySpace, Friendster, Facebook…ahhh.. which one! Well lets say once you figure out that you like, lets say…myspace.com. You joined! Great! But wait, your friend is on FaceBook…ok so you joined that also. Now you want to find friends. Well, both myspace and facebook have searching. Both are good, but what if you don’t want to go back and forth. You want to just do one search in one place…well thanks to yoname.com you now can. YoName remains in beta testing, but I’m not so impressed by its search capabilities. You can’t refine by age or location. Of the 8.5 million Jonathan pinpointed by YoName on MySpace, I could only view the first ten people. YoName is a people-search engine that looks across MySpace, LinkedIn, Digg, Facebook, Friendster, Match, and Xanga. You could always google someone or even use zabasearch.com if you really want to stalk someone.
