So we have been hearing the term “the paperless office”, are we really moving in that direction. What if i told you that there is a pen that records while you are taking notes.. and to go a step further, what if I told you that there is a pen that not only records sound as you take notes but tags the recordings so that if you point to any line of your notes you hear what was being said a the time you were taking the notes… you would say “WHAT!?!” A company called LiveScribe has a pen that does just that. I can tell you that it’s something of a marvel. It is great for students, the on the go businessman that hates to take a computer to a meeting, a lawyer, or just about anyone that takes a lot of notes on paper and has a habit of forgetting key points because they are too busy jotting their own notes down. The Pulse SmartPen as it has been coined, uses special paper with tinny dots embedded in it. Eventually, the company stated that you will be able to print your own on your home or office printer, but not right now. For specifics go to livescribe.com . I can tell you that everyone I have shown it too wants one. At first they are like, “I would never use that.”, then I demo it to them, “Where can I buy one!” The software is PC only but will work in VMware Fusion on Mac OS X, but they are developing a native Mac OS X version of the software soon. All I can say is go to the web site and check it out. I’ll be giving mine the real test at this years WWDC in San Francisco next week. I included the video from their website that shows a brief overview, but you really should go explore their site….see you at WWDC!
