If you are like me you use Gmail all the time. I mainly log in using safari. I also get my Gmail on my iPhone. There are those times that I open the Mail in Mac OS X, every so often just to do a quick glance. There are a few things I like about Gmail. One in particular is the labeling feature. You basically can make labels and tag your mail then archive them. If you use a iPhone or a client that supports IMAP like Apple’s Mail; you have noticed that these labels are folders. But have you ever noticed that there are always a [All Mail] folder and others that literarily you could care less about. There are also a few other folders that I have always been a bit annoying to me. Well thanks to one of my co-workers who pointed out this tip I was not aware of a way to get rid or actually hide these folders from view on my iPhone or Apple Mail on my computer.
Step 1: Click on settings then “Labs” tab

Step 2: Scroll down until you see “Advanced IMAP Settings”
Step 3: Click “enable“
Step 4: Click on the “Labels” tab

You will now see a new setting
Step 5: Uncheck which label/folder you don’t want to see
That’s it.
Here is an example of what happens.

Before on the iPhone

After on the iPhone
