Google Labs is at it again! They have officially activated the ability to work with Gmail offline. Before you begin you will need to install Google Gears. Google Gears give your browser the ability to take advantage of Googles ability to cache information locally from websites that take advantage of the Google API. Once you have successfully installed Google Gears you are ready to activate Google Offline.
Step 1: Click on Settings or if you already have started some of the Google labs plug in you will see a Green beaker. Either one will get you to Google Labs.

Step 2: Make sure you are on “Labs” then the first plug-in on the page should be “Google Offline”. You will want to click on “Enable” then click “Save Changes”

Step 3: You will now see a new selection next to the green beaker and Setting in the menu bar at the top of your gmail.

Step 4: Click on “Offline” and you will begin the syncing process

Once done you will see the following

If you are on a Apple, then you will actually see a Gmail Link appear on your desktop

After following the steps you should be working offline when you need too.
